Chamberlain, The minutes of the previous meeting were read and confirmed, -: ~ . ■A letter was read from Messrs Ohapman and Fitzgerald, solicitors .'for the Schooieomiiiissioner, re the 'transferof theiohoplreeevre to the Trust,' but as

Mr Perry thought that was a matter for the sohool committee to dealjwith, be did not thintthey should, spend their money in advertising for the committee's wanti , ';, ;-';''' ■>,"•.•'■■!,; ,'..'.:. Mr Muir, in seconding the motion,, said the bohool com'nitteo were not in'a position to purohase a site, and it was better, for those who were going 'to buy the land to advertise for it.. y,X ' The motion was -then carried. ■■ • - EENAII'SIEEBT.
Mr Parsons said he had been asked.. by< Mr Hare to move the resolution standing in his name, "That the Council be asked to complete their agreement re purchasing the ■ portion of Rsiiall Stireet for widening'purposes within a-,mouth, failing which tenders be invited for, leasing tlie same." He did not approve : of ! tho motion, but would move it as reques-,. ted. Ho would prefer that a poll' bf voters be taken on the question, as to whether the people'-requited payment for tlte land, or would give it for street widening purposes, ,' Mr Muir agreed with the first part of the motion, as to,completing .agreements, within a 'month, but objected to tho latter part and hoped .tho Trust would hot let it, ■'.' The Chairman said as the matter had boon hanging for"such a .long time he would like to see it Bettled, and if a poll was taken they would then have the opinion of their'constituents to guide them. 1 M.r Muir said M tho Borough wanted the land they should give the Trust an equivalent. , It was rodiculous for people to say the land belonged to the Borough and they would be. buying their own property, The Trust was charged rates for the property, showing was their land. The Trustees ! would not gain anythin? by selling the site, -the people would reap the benefit, '"■",''■'. Mr Parsons said as outside people were interested they should have a voico in the disposal of it. If it belonged solely tq the Borough ho would not hesitate a moment. They wero there to do their duty to„the people and a poll would be the most • satisfactory way to settle the questiun.-; ' : '* ; ;;, ..-: ' '.'
