LEGAL ANECDOTE.

But just as ho was'about to sit down, the trembling attorney put a. slip of paper into Ms hand*: "You have pleaded for tiie,wromr patty;" whereupon with an air of infinite composure, he resumed tho threat of hia oration, saying. •"Such, my lord, is the statement you will probably hear from my brother, on the opposite side of the cause. I shall, now beg leave, in a veiy fow words, to show your lordship how utterly untenable are the principles and ihow distorted arc the facta, upon which this vary speeious statement has proceeded," And so tbau he wont oneo more over the -same ground, and did not tako his seat until ho had most energetically refuted himself, and destroyed fcho effect of hia former pleading.
