BOXING DAY AT WHAKATAKI.

A short time, ago a meeting was held, when it was unanimously agteed to get. up sports for boxing day, A programme •was drawn out and a subscription list to raise funds, which was readily responded to by nearly ovoryone, and a sum of twenty pounds was soon on'the lists. The sports came eff on Monday and about a hundred residents from the surrounding neighborhood attended. The weather in the morning was threatening and one or two heavy showers of rain foil but about eleven o'clock it clearod and the remainder of the day was all that could be desired. The programme was lengthy including seventeen, the last of which was got through as the shades of evening were falling fast. Everything passed off very satisfactorily and agreeably. The events, were as follows : Maiden Baco, 100 yds, £l.—Lainniont, Ist; Innes, 2nd. Boys Race (under 10. years), 100 yds, 15s.—J. Owen, Ist; N. Owen, 2nd. 100 yds Handicap, £1 103.-. T. Owen, Ist; Lamnumt, 2nd, Running High Jump, lßa.-Lammont, Ist; Hooker, 2nd. ' 200 yds Handicap, first prize 30s; second, •155.-E. Wjnterjngham, Ibli'; Barry, 15a.—D, 6, Speedy beat all comers. . 200 yds Hurdle Race, first prize 303, second prize 15s.—Barry, Ist; Lammont, 2nd.; ..„ : ■.(■.:■.-..'...
