The banquet given by Mr Caselberg last evening deserves more than a passing notice. It may, perhaps, be said against it that it was somewhat overloaded with speeches, but apart from this objection it was in every sense of the word a success, We have to thank Mr Caselberg for taking advantage of his accession to the civic chair for a third term to collect together the representative men of the town and district in a friendly reunion —more especially for bringing the Lower Valley and the Upper Valley into harmonic relations. A public man, holding the high position which Mr Caselberg fills, can do an immense amount of good by promoting an entente cordiak between the different parts of this district, and showing that there ft a community of interests in the Wairarapa, and this is exactly the proud success which Mr Caselberg achieved last evening by his splendid banquet, Some of the remarks, too, which fell from tho speakers, notably from the chairman, from Mr Buchanan, and from Mr Beetham, were of considerable practical value, but this aspect of the gathering we will deal with in another issue.

Wo regret to learn that another bush accident caso was-received at the Masterton Hospital hit night. On Tuesday afternoon a sudden guitof wind blew over a large tree, which was partly cut through, and Mawhinay, without looking to see which way it was falling, ran right under it, and was struck down, and it was found that both his legs were broken, and he had received a severe blow on the head. He was carried into Pahiat.ua, and was there attended to by tho Woodvillo doctor, who advised his removal to tho Maßterton Hospital, Mr James Sinclair arrived with him here at midnight. Some consternation was cauaed among the passengers on the Wellington and Manawatu Railway Company's line on Monday night, about ten o'clock, as the passenger train for Wellington was passing Graham's station on the other side of Otaki. We were shewn this morning two handsome sunlight reflectors, made by Mr D. Pickering, for the lighting of St, Matthew|s Church.- Eaoh reflector is five feet in diameter, with aceotro dome, the whole lined with, opal glass, there beinc thirty-four sections iu each, arranged bo as to form a doublo reflection. They are built of tin, with brass body and furnishings, tho outer rim ;having an dniamental floral deskm, the centre baao being finished off with a star, which effectually blinds tho ten jet pipes, and will be pleasing to the eye. The workmanship of these reflectors speak for themselves, the shape, stability, and finish being splendidly executed, To those public bodies who have not yet arranged for the lighting of their buildings, we would recommend them to adopt this principle, as tho wholo of the light is thrown 'downward, whereaß by the ordinary arm light, tho upper part of an edifice receives the bulk of the illumination, bosidoß consuming more gas, Mr Pickering is makiug window reflectors on the same principle for Messrs Hooper and Co, and liolloway, which will, when finished, be a decided ornament to their establishments, A meeting of the Wairarapa Eifle AsBociation was held at the Marquis of Normanby Hotel, Carterton, yesterday.
