MASTERTON BOROUGH COUNCIL.

The ordinary fortnightly mooting of the J| Council was held last evening. Present-' Gapper (in the chair), Muir, Parsons, Pony, Cullen, Elkins and Mason. Tho minutes of tho previous mooting were read and confirmed. Correspondence—lnwards. A letter tta received from G. S. Coopor, stating that the question of dividing the Borough into Wards, brought forward by Mr «nall, was still under consideration. FINANCE COMStITIEE. A. statement was read, showing outotanding rates, £656 12s 4d; overdraft, £116315 a 9d. A list comprising 60 ratepayers, upon whom the collector had called without effect, was examined, and it was intimated that defaulters would be sued, ■ ' GAS COMMITTEE. Roports from the Gas Committee were considered and adopted, ISSPECXOE OV SDISASCF.S, A Ion? report on the sanitary condition of portions of the town was submitted by tho Inspector, in which ho pointed out tho necessity of new by-laws and specific Mogulations for the construction of cessfits from proper material, and the removal of rubbish. Tho report was referred to the Sanitary Committee. Proposed by Cr Muir, seconded by Cr Cullen, that the Mayor's notico of motion that tho committee meetings bo rearranged bo deferred in tho absence of the mover. Cr Gapper's motion ro sluico gates was then brought beforo the Council. He stated that sluice gates should be erected betweon Hessey and-Miriam-streets, as the present water supply in case of fire was inadequate, and ho suggested that Oapfcuin Muir's name be coupled with the tlution. Carried, r Cullen tablod a resolution that a public urinal, bo erected, and the cost of the. same should bo estimated by the Banitary Committee. The meeting then adjourned.
