THE PARCEL POST IN FRANCE.
Curiously enough, just when we hav# been reducing the price of our. parcel posttho French aro proposing toTeduce theirs. At present the charge is a uniform! one o! B|d for all parcels up to 71b (3 kilos) In weight. By the law now bofdre the Chamber the uniform charge is to be a franc (lOd). There are, however, other alterations to be introduced "which fully make up for the increased price. In the first placbvtho limit of weight is to be raised from 71b to 111b (5 kilos), and there are no powerful restrictions asjo size. Then, an expansion is to be Mb to the excellent system whereby %e French Post Office collects payments- for parcels and gives the amount over to the vendor. Hitherto £4 (100f.) has been, the limit of such transaction ; ; by-the new law the limit is to be raised to £2O, A third advantage -proposed is a system of insurance, whereby j* cousigner may insure at the rate.of ldplW £4. Parisian tradesmen are; lookiug forward to the carrying of the : new law for the establishment of a complete and safe system of parcel poat v will no doubt torn! to concentrate trad* #lll more upon the capital. ..;■•■
