TOWN LANDS TRUST.
The ordinary meeting of the Masterton Trustees was held at the Institute last evening, Present, Messrs E. Feist (Chairman), J. Muir, R, Hare, aud E. E, Chamberlain. The minutes of the previous meeting were read and confirmed and the Treasurer's statement showed a credit balance of £45 18s 3d. . Tendors were received from Messrs W. Cullen and E. A. Nicols for the loaso of part of town acre 85, which were accepted, The question of the sohool picnic grants cropped up, and during the disouwion, Mr Hare Baid he. would like to Bee two scholarships of £lO each offered for eaoh school, as it would encourage the soholars, and provide the means for the advaaced | education of the deserving' ones. The ( idea was favorably received by tho Trustees. : ) SCHOOL SUE; [ A letter was read from Mr W. Sellar, i Secretary of the Mastertou School Com- ) mittee, pointing out that tho sum of £SOO t had boon promised by tho Education ( Board if a site could be procured in the t town by the School Committee, and ask- ' ing the Trustees to purchase one and lease 1 tho same for a lengthened term to the 3 Board, so that the amount would not bo ir lost to the town.
From Barne stating that the School a Committee liad inspected four sites for a j school, and enclosing a list of the same c with the Committee's voting on then) f viz. , 1 note with frontages to Victoria and s (Mr Simpcox, .4 votes), 1 [ acre Victoria-Btreat (Mr E, Meredith), § j acre with frontages to Perry and Hall- f atroota (Mr. \Voodr(iofo 3 votes,) f acre ffith frontages to Hall and Albert-state (Mr Wyodroute), From Mr WuOdroofe offering the site i in Perry-street for the sum of' £315, the purchaser to erect the whole of the dividing fences. Mr Hare suggested that the School 1 Committee should endeavor to got an acre 1 of the Cemetery reserve, adjoining the ' Park. The situation wasßuitable, and ns 1 the town advanced and the school in* 1 oreased, additional land would he required which could easily be.obtained from the Cemetery Trust who had power under : the Publio Park and Cemetery .Act, 1875, to lease for a term of twenty-ono years. Mr Muir questioned whether the Bohool Committee would be agreeable for such a sito. He did not think the property was accessible from tho street. Mr Hare said that aocesa could be gaiued through the Park. A discussion ensued on the relative merits of the sections submitted. The Perry-street piece was considered too small, the one in Hall-stroet too uneven, a creek running through it, aiid the expense it would entail to mako it suitable for school purpuses. As the priceß of the other sections had- not been obtained the Clerk was requested to get the desired information by the time the next meeting of the School Committee wat held, Mr Hare moved " That the application of the School Committee re sohool site, be deferred for the present, and that the School Committee be recommended to apply to tho Cemetory Trust to lease an acre of the cemotery reserve." Mr Chamberlain eecondsd the motion | which was carried. BENALL STREET. | Mr Hare asked what action had been 1 taken with roferenoe to the widening of this street. Ho had been away from Maßterton for some time, and would like to know if the Borough Council were carrying out the proposals thoy had accepted, The Chairman said that matters had not progressed since the Council had made the proposition 1, to purchase the [ section. Public meetings had been- hold s and the question seemed to Test there. 2 Mr Muir said as far as the Truatocß , were concerned no notice of any meeting j had been given, nnr tho resolutions r passed at the meeting had been forwarded r to them, 2 Mr Hare gave notico that at tho next J meeting of the Trust he would move I " That the Borough Council bo asked to b complete tho arrangement made with the B Trustees, re widening lienall street, within a month, failing which tondera be invited for leasing the section." j Several new leases were signed, and [t the meeting then adjourned,
