At a special meeting of the Masterton Borough Council held on Wednesday evening, when His Worship the' Mayor and Councillor Gapper were elected to represent the Council on the Wairarapa Distriot Hospital Board. A long discussion onsued on the Borousjh divisiou and the Clerk was instructed to write to the Colonial Secretary, and ascertain if a petition had boon sent in from, Mas: terton, aa the usual statutory notice had not beau given to the Council. Mr J. ; D. Foley, the clover comedian and character delineator, gave two entertainments in the theatre loyal on Wednesday and Thursday, evenings to very good houses. Since he has been away from Masterton Mr Foley has certainly developed into a character- aotor of a firstclass order, and manages to ke«p his andienoe amused the whole evening single handed. His musical manipulation of the ordinary spirit-bottles iB exceed-, ingly clever,'and la-only excelled- by. his yentailoquial display which is as amusing as any we have seen in the district. His lightning changes are well worth seeing, and are a feature in the entertainment worth the whole money.
