DISCOVERY OF LOST TREASURE.
It is ttbt often that such a curious ; case of recovery of lost property occurs as that repotted from the East of England lately. It appears that some 20 years ago Mr J. Pitt, a New Zealand Colonist, on a visit to his brother-in-law, Mr H. Knight, of Bloomfield, Essex, lost a' missive gold ring while gathering some; fruit for the children in the host's garden, and rei turned to the Antipodes without any expectation of ever seeing the ring again, Tho other day, while digging potatoes on the same piece of ground, a lad named [ Sydney Cass, nephew of Mr Knight, saw something glistening on the ground, which proved to bo the long, lost ring, norte the worse for its long burial. There is only one thing lacking to make this story complete, and that is, that the ring ought to have been found embodied in a baked potato, unwittingly placed on Mr Pitt's plate while on a second visit tothe Old Country.
