MEAT SUPPLY.

_ A summary just published affords interesting particulars of tho statistics of live Btock for'the various countries of Europe. Russia has the largest number of animals of every class, followed by Germany, Austro-Hungary, and, France in the order named. -'Groat Britain comes next, but on a very reduced ■ aoale, with the exception of sheep, m which she ranks next to Russia. Turning to non-European countries, the United States and La Plata have, when taking population into account, a still larger proportional stook than those nations; but when a comparison ib made between the forogoing countries and the Australian colonics, the figures of the latter in the correlative proportion of population, and hvo stock represent dimensions which, to the eyes of Europeans at any rate, must appear almost fabulous. Their stocks, too, from year to year are found to be increasing on an enormous scale. It is to our southern possessions that England must look, and especially in war time, for a continual flow of meat supplies for the use of her dense population. Our own cattle stocks being in a stationary condition, it is useful and instructive to kuow whence it may be in our power to obtain food. In the noar future this is a matter with which it will be difficult to deal, and any steps taken at the present time to enßuro meat supplies are of paramount importance to tho community at large.—Home News.
