THE CHARGE AGAINST THOMAS HALL.
[United Press Association,]
. Christchukch, November 15. The fact that Detective Kirby was in Christchurch on Saturday gave rise to various rumours that he was engaged in hunting up evidence in the matter of Captain Cain's death. It is stated that the poison book of Mrs Watkins, the chemist, at whose establishment Thomas Hall purchased colchicum wine
in Juno last, is missing, and that an assistant of Mrs Watkins, who was with her about a twelvemonth ago, is now in Australia, As no clue to Hall having about that time purchased poison in Timaru at any other of the chemist's has been found, it is understood that tho assistant above referred to will be, examined, and'if necessary will be called to give evidence at the adjourned inquest. Mrs Newton has been sent for to Melbourne, in order that she may be called at the inquest.
