PUBLIC VACCINATION.

Sir—An extract has beon forwarded to me from a recent issu&A'your paper in which'you have atuteiTinreplv to a quory forwarded to you, that " The public vaccinator has a right to charge for all vaccinations performed at other places than those gazetted by the Government." Ab this statement is likely to mislead the public I foel bound to observo that youhave apparently been unaware of tho provisions of the 160 th section of the Publio - Health Act 1876. It reads as follows " No fee or remuneration shall be charged demanded or received by tho publdHaaoinator to of or from the parent offltbep • person for tiny such certificate (i.ofuftor vaccination) as aforesaid given by him as public vattinator, nor except such salary nr fees anointed by the Governor aa /w any vacciwtiM or rmccimtion dont by him within the, district fa which he k appointed, or any' ychilrl resident withiu the district, wnethor such vacoination shall bo done 1 within or witWhia district." If you will roadstho ljßfd aectioa of the same Act you wilrfiqai?- required that the parent of every chill born in tho colony shall, within six monthii after tho birth, take auch child to 'the publio vaccinator, and that the pubhcivafoinstor is required to " vacoiiiate such child without fee or reward other'-.than tho salary or foes 'appointed ,\by tho : governor," and part of section provides that every public vaocinator .shall be paid out of monies to be appropriated by the Generjl Assembly for the purpose suoli salary or fees as the Governor slfrjfom time to time Appoint, ,It iB elMflerefore, that no publio yaccinator iißratled to charge for any vaccination of (a child perfumed by him in the district, for which ho is appointed, whether tha vaocmatiou be performed at ,a gazetted station or other place. Any chargoa that may have been made contrary to the provisions of the Act would have been of course illegally made. As this matter may be of some importance to the public, 1 shall feel obliged by your making known the contents of this letter. I am, &c., X.Y.Z.
