Auckland, this day. The schooner Julius Pryco has arrived from the South Sea Islands, after over four months' absence. The Captain reports that on the 10th June (the day of the Tarawora eruption) the schooner fell in with a hard S.W. sale with terrific sea which increased the next day, when she wasinlat. 35D8S-, long. 178'48E. Her rigging, gear, and deck wore thickly coated with mud, much to the surprise of tho captain and crew. They were at the time unable to account for the strange downpour, and ventured on a puess that it was the result of some-volcanic disturbance. This occurred on the morning of the 11th Juno. At the time Ourvior Island bore W.S.W., distance 100 miles. The S. W. uale was then blowing with great fury, <-«ni.s'iOiii'iic!l, October 25. The testimonial to Miss Houston, toward which subscriptions are being invited, has, so far, met with good response. One gentleman alone had up to to-day obtained subjeriptions to tho amount of L 35. The names of many prominent citizens, including lawyers, doctors, managers of insurance companies, merchants, and tradesmen, aro amongst those who have subscribed.
