A MINISTER'S FAREWELL TO THE PRESBYTERY.
The Post's own correspondent telegraphs as fullcws on Wednesday, October b'th: At a mooting of the Auckland Presbytery yesterday a letter was read from tho Rev J. M. Killen, who had started practising law at Wangarei, resigning the pastorate of tho Wangarei Presbyterian Church, In tho course of Mlottor he wrote:—"ln doing so 1 wisllnlyresignation to bo regarded as a protcst-the strongest one 1 can mako—against (1) tho inadequacy of tho stipends provided for country ministers in tho Presbyterian Churches of New Zealand ; (2) tho unworthy means that are resorted to m order to inadequont stipend; (3). the neglect of outlaying country districts by stronger and more wealthy charges; (4) the breach of the Fourth Commandment, occasioned by ministers having to take long journeys and conduct numerous services in tho Bcattored preaching, stations on each Lord's Day." Tho Revs. Somirierville and Morris dissonted strongly from tho sentiments expressed by the writer. Tho Rev. Mr Mackay aimed with Mr Killen in regard to the treatmont of outside churches by wealthier ones, and considered thero was nothing disrespectful to tho Pfesbytory in the letter. The Rev. Mr Spramervillo said that no doubt the letter had boon written undor extromo irritation.
