Svdkey, October 5, • A mau named Joo Adams, alias Caffrey. has been arrested at Fevmnouut on suspicion of havinc committed the niurdorafc the Great Barrier Islands,' A revolver, Borne cartridges, and a piratical flag have boeu found in his swag. Tho prisoner denied ever having been in New Zealand, bat his appearance exactly answers the description of Caffrey. His mate Peun has uot yet been traced. A quantity of wreckage and.ship's stores have been found at Port Macquatio, aa well aB a board bearing thy name. "Auckland." The prisoner lias been romandud. United Press Association. Information to hand' per Manapouri from Sydney, leaves not the' slightest doubt as -to.the fatoof the cutter Sovereign of the Seas, wrockagb of that vessel ljavius? boon identified by several well-known signs, names and numbers. The following particulars appear in the Sydney Morning Herald September 20; Port Macquario, Tuesday. Jjast Saturday afterwxm Pilot Kinggford received informatkiu that koino wreckage had been waßhed up at tho beach north of Port Macquarie. He at once proceeded to search tho beach and found part, of a duck beanu with combing attached. In the beam was cut the tonnage, 31, and also tho official number 52,415. The pilot sent his raon out on Sunday to Buarch tho southern beach, they discovered a board, evidently from the stern of a vessel, with tho name "Sovereign of tho Seas" painted on it. It has beeu painte^over'with'black paint oxcept "reign" It will be romombered that on the 10th June a murder was committed on the Great Barrier Island, by John Caffrey and Henry Albert Penn, who had charge of the cutter bearing the above name. The mau murdered was Robert Taylor, No doubt this wreckage is the remains v>f tho same vessel which left the island cutter rigged, and flying a black flag. She was occupied by the two men named, Tho New Zealand Government offered a reward of £3OO for their apprehension. The finding of tho beam, with tho tonnaw and official number cut upon it, and also. the ; Board with the name of tho vessel, appears conclusive proof that Bhe has finished her career,"
Tlio Auckland police authorities liave forwarded a fuller personal description of Caffrey to. the Sydney police for indentitication of the mini in custody, and have also-coinmunicatod with old Aucklandura now rosidont in Sydney acquainted with CaQrey. •
