WAIRARAPA GOSPEL TEMPERANCE UNION.
A pubho meeting under the. auspices ot tho Gospel Temperance Union, being the third.of tho series, was held m the Pres. bytorfan Churchy Masterton, last night, and was the moßt unanimous and, enthusiastio.meefcingyotbeenheld by the'm. The attendance was large, the building being nearly filled with a most appreciative audienco. (i Thu addresses 1 given. were anything - bjit dull, although : to the purpose, and ware listened to throughout, with a thorough enjoyment. : The chair was occupied on this .occasion by Mr E. Fiest, who testified, to several cases that had come within hisjjuflwledaa of the direct result of MtßurnubHWssion where the hoad of tho family M beoa brought to a better course of life, and the home, brightened, and restored to its former happiness beforo the evil spirit of intemperance .had entered tho threshold. Ho paid a high eulogium to Mr Burnett. The; Rev. D. Fulton ijave a twenty minutes addreßß upon the of moderate drinking, illustrated by numerous cases with, which he had comd.in contact, both at home and in the colonies. Ho vividly portrayed tho career of many who had started with every hope and. dosiro to livo a useful life and who had been destroyed by giving way to the drinking oustoms o f tho period,. The Rev. Mr Buttle discoursed upon the importance of educating' tl\e. youug and rising , generation '. He glistened to with marked attention'-' and ■ was frequently applauded.. .The ohoir under Mr Betty, Mrs Kibblewhite, ' and Mewn Rogers and-Marsh, contributed, to tka enjoyment of the meeting by their .songs ,aina recitations, Miss Graham presided at the piano, and Miss Feist at the harmonium. At the conclusion Mr J« Gr&ham stated that a desire had been expressed that a choir should in connection with the Union, andjflf invited those who wished to join to give-in their names. ' To this a great many responded, and it waß roaolved that a ohoir jjiouid bo forfaed consisting of 50 or 60 voices and steps should be taken to procure an instrument. •• The meeting then opnoluded. ■
