FOOTBALL.
The return match Wairarapa v. Wellington takes place at Groytown on Saturday afternoon next. The kick-off will take place at 1 o'clook, The Mayor of Groytown has requested tho.citizons to observe a half holiday on that day, Visitors from .Masterton can leave by the 10.5 a.m. train, and return home after the match by the 4 p.m. train from Greytown. The Selection, Committee of the Southern Rugby Union have. Beleuted the following team' to represent New South Wales in New Zealand:—Waikor, Caird, M'Arthur, Cameron, Shaw, Bellbridga, Cany Weaver, P. Allen, Shortus, Woolnough, ColquhoTnij. Blaxland, Pearson, Beck, Austin, Warren, and Wiseheart. Walker is the only momber of the team who visited these shoros with the team in 1882; The first seven of the above players took part in the last match against Queensland. Only two of the famous Gordon team, Messrs Walker and Warren (secretary), are among the team! The New South Welshmen should "be pretty fast, as no'fewer than nine of them play half-back for their clubs iri Sydney. In View of the match with the above team, tho Reception Committee of the Wairarapa Union Bhould be up aud doing, so that tho visitors may bo suitably entertained on thoir visit to Masterton. '
■ Saturday week, the 28th August, says the Press, promises to be the greatest gala day this colony will have witnessed as regards football; as. the live largest teams will be engaged in contests of tho first order. On. that day New South Wales meo't Auckland at Auckland, Nelson meets Wellington at Wellington, aud Canterbury meet Otago at Dunedin, Let us hope the,best teuns will win.
