Christchuroh, August IV. Last night tho shop of Mr B. Butt, painter'and glazier, was broken into; and glazier's diamonds to the value of £25 were stoled. Other, instances of breaking into and stealitig have occurred recently, but not of so sorious a character.

It is raining very heavily, witli wind from tho east. Several small land slips have occurred on the Port hills. Accounts from'tho country show that newly sown crops have suffered greatly,- There is also a considerable loss, among, the stock. The Styx Apple Co. havo receivod satisfactory nows of their shipment of apples sent to England as ordinary cargo by tho Coptic. The hardior kinds reached London in good condition and sold well, but tho softer succumbed to tho heat.

Bluff, August 17. Tho stranded steamer Pelliani broko up yesterday, owing to tho strong easterly gale aiid soas. The forward part was turned bottom up, and the after portion has been thrown some thirty yards from tho other furthov ashore. The engines and boilers have broken away from the wrack, and lie wliera the. steamer first struck. The wreck, gear, and fittings were sold separately yesterday, Tho former was bought by Mr Bradshaw for £2O, and the latter realised in'all £147.

Inveruakgili, August 17. Judgment was given in tho Pelliam enquiry to-day, when the certificate of Captain Granger was suspended for three months, and ho was ordered to pay £25 19s coats.
