An: inquest was held at Lyttelton on the body of Thomas Kelly, who was supposed to have,died from injuries received while unloading a coal hulk. The inquiry put a different' complexion on • the affair, •The evidence was to the effect that the deceased had twice fallen down the hold of the coalhulk where he was working oh August 3, but appeared hone the worse • for the falls, He appeared to bo in good health," and continued to work for the remainder of the week. According to the evidence ■of .a eirl naiiied Lily • Treeavan, when ;he went home on Saturday afternoon his wife pushed .himpff.the.verandah.down a flight of steps, a height of .Bft. He fell baokwards but lose and went around to the back of the. house and nothinp more was seen of him. Medical evidence considered that death had. resulted from concussion of the spine, and that if deceased had : re> ceived such an injury on August 3rd when he fell on the coal hulk he could not have gone about working as. he had | till Saturday last.. The jury returned a verdict of.manslaughter againstdecoaßed's wife' Catherine Kelly."".'.-
