FOOTBALL.
The following alterations, as by tho Canterbury Rugby Union with regard to rough play unci other infiingomeuts of the rules, will be of interest to Wairarapa footballers : 1. That the rulo as to rough play adopted by tho Yorkshire County Cup Committee be introduced into tho Rugby Union Rules. This rule is to the effect that tho Referee is empowered to caution any player who in his opinion, is guilty of unnecessary roughness, and if the offender disregard the caution, the Refereo can atop him from playing any longer in the match. 2. That the motion relative to scoring by points, coining before the autumnal meeting of the English Rugby Union he supported. 3 That the latter portion of rulo 22 be altered to read, " taken back to the place whore it was last played before tho off side play occurred, and a free kiokas defined by rule 24 allowed to the appealing side, suoh free kick not to count a goal."
4. Thatjjthe end of the rule 24 be altered to read, " Such free kick may count a goal.
6. That the English Rugby Union bo requested to. frame a rule infliotin? adequate penalties in the following cases: (a)-Of a player running for tho ball in his opponents goal being held, tripped up, or obtruded, and one of tho opposite side being thereby enabled to obtain the ball and save tho try, (b) —Of a play3r ruuning for a ball in hit own goal, being hold, tripped. up, or obstructed, and one of the opposite side being thereby enabled to obtain a try. .
The Secretary of the Te Ore Ore Football Olub, has written to the Sydney team, to arrange a match if possible between a- Maori team and the Sydnoy team. The object would be to get a thoroughly representative New Zealand team, to include, Warbrick, Taisroa (2), and other Maori players of note.'
