MASTERTON AGRICULTURAL AND PASTORAL ASSOCIATION.
A meeting of the Geneial Committee was held at the Temple Clmiu bers on Saturday. Present—Messrs R. S. Hawkins (President), T. Parsons, J, Vile, B. R. Meredith, E, Meredith, T. Chamberlain, B. P. Perry, J. Muir, It. Welch, W. lorna, J. C. Vallance, D. Carman, F. Gray, A. Johnson, and R. D. Dagg. The business of the meeting was'to ballot out five members. This was done by placing the whole of tho names in a hat and drawing. The following are the members balloted outH. it, Elder, A, Elkins, J. Moriaoi), J. Hessoy, and D. Carman.
Mr E. Meredith moved and Mr W. loms seconded that the following rule be recommended to tho general meeting for adoption: "That any member of the Goueral Commit tee failing without leavo of absence to attend at least two meetings of committee during tho year should cease to be a member."—Carried.
The Secretary stated there wore souio members of the Committee who had not atteuded one meeting. There had been thirteen meotings during the year, It was rnsolved that tho Secretary write aud enquire of those members who had failed to attend any meetings if they were desirous of retiring. Tho _ President read the following memorial which hifd been sent to the Colonial Secretary in accordance with instructions given at the last meeting "To the Hon. the. Colonial Secretary.— The memorial of the Masterton Agricultural and Pastoral Association sheweth That you' 1 memorialists are an Association representing several the large flock owners, as well as the small farmers in the Northern subdivision of the Wairarapa District. That the interests', of the flock owners and farmers suffer seriously from any impediment in the free movement of sheep; That your memorialists as an Association are seriously impeded in its shows by the fact that the Wellington District is still in the statutory sense 1 an infected district' under the Sheep Act 1878, and the difficulties aud inconveniences thus placed in the way of owners of stud sheep outside the district are such as to prevent them showing sheep at tho show of your memorialists and the owners and farmors represented by them. That by the report datod 14th May last of Superintendant Inspector Benjamin P. Bayley, addressed-to you as Colonial Secretary, and presented to both Houses of the General Assembly is the following paragraph. 'lt is with satisfaction I am able to report tint that the North Island is now thoroughly free from disease, and the several flocks have stood the test of a shearing muster, together with a systematic and close inspection, tho fact of this portion of tho colony buiug clean may bo considored thoroughly established.' Your memorialists therefore pray that you will advise His Excellency the Governor at the earliest possible date to- proclaim the Wellington District a olean district within the terms uf the Sheep Act 1878. Dated this day of 1886, by order of the Association, Secretary." Mrßeotham had been written to requesting lie would present the memorial. His reply was read, expressing the pleasure he would feel in doing so. No result Jiad yet been reoeived, and the Secretary was instruoted to write to Mr Boothatn, and request him to again wait upon tho Colonial Secretary with a view to gettin? their memorial given effect to.. A discussion took place on the best day upon which, to hold the Show, and it was resolved to recommend That the annual show be held on Thursday, November 25th.
The annual general meeting of the Society was fixed for Wednesday, Aug. 25th, at 11 a,in, It was resolved that the balance shoot be audited and published. This concluded the business.
