In the last Gazette, the Government advertise a quantity of Crown land in the Waiiarapa district under deferred payment system, compriainEt, lands in the Wairarapa, Puketoi, Feathers ton, .Waiohine,.Mangahao, and othersurveydistricts at upset prices, from 20s to 35s per acre, and have fixed the 23rd of August as the day upon which the sections aro open for application. The Secretary of the Theatre Royal Company, Mr G. 8. W. Dalrymple, has written to the Borough Council complaining on behalf of the lessee, Mr Hoiloway, that certain buildings are being used as places of public entertainment, the same not beinf duly licensed as such in accordancß with the requirements of the Municipal Corporations Act, clause 323. Two places were referred to-one an auction room in which weekly dances ware held, the other the Wesleyan Church, where it was stated a public entertainment was ; about to be held, tickets for -which were now being sold. In the former, case the Council took no action, in the latter they resolved to send a notice to the Trustees d rawing their attention to the Act.
