On arriving in the United States, Heid, Foley, and Mondoza will make a formal demand to the Government for payment of expenses entailed upon them in New Zealand by the legal proceedings under 1 taken against them at the instance of the, American consul. Professor Hutton, who arrived in Auckland on Saturday night from the lake oountry, with Professor Brown, considers that the volcanic action is gradually dying out, and believes that vegetation will grow over the deposit at Wairoaand make the district again inhabitable.,,-
