WAIRARAPA WEST COUNTY COUNCIL.
The ordinary meeting of the Council was held at Carterton on Saturday. Present.—Crs, W. Booth (Chairman), H. Bunny, W. C. Buchanan, J. Martin, H, Braithwaite, A. Matthews, C. Phillips, J. Tully, and H. R. Bunny. The Treasurer read the report and stated • there was a credit balance of £533 6s Correspondence.—From Taratahi-Car-
terton Road Board statini> that they would advance £4OO on the same terms as the Featheraton Road Board, which offer was accoptod. From East County Council ro Local Bodies.
From the Wellington Harbor Board. It was resolved that the Clerk write to the Harbor Board informing them that this Council coinsides with them,
From the Government re Rabbit pest. Resolved that it was too late to do anything in the matter. . From same re the Wairarapa Lake difficulty. From Cook County Council re the Native Land Bill. Resolved to reply that it was too late to do anything in tha matter.
The Engineer's report was read, the main feature being that }he Martinboro'Pahau Road would have been completed only for slips which had occurred during the bad weather. The minutes of tho Public Works Committee of the last meeting were read. In reference to the minute relating, to the Wiohino River Board it was stated that they had authorised the Engine® not to accept any tenders for the protections beyond a certain limit, In reference to Mr Dawson's contract, it was resolved that his time for completing the work be extended to the 30th September, 1886. A letter'from Mr Sexton re the further lease of the Hurunuiorangi ferry reserve wa« read.
Cr H. R. Bunny explained that he had *poken' to Mr Sexton and informed him that the Council thought that it would be advisable to take two er three acres for the purpose of making a house for. the roadman.
Cr Buchanan moved andCr Matthews seconded that the report as brought up by the Committee be adopted.—Garriod. Cr Bunny moved and Or Braithwaite seconded, That the toll-house be removed on to tha Waiohine river reserve at a cost not exceeding £lO and that tenders be called for the lease of the same.—Carried,
From East County Counoilro proposed by-laws for slaughterhouses and pointing out that section 9 was too stringent, ana recommending that it should be left to the satisfaction of the inspector to say whether offal, etc., has been removed according to the by-law. From the Greytown Borough Couuoil, stating that it agreed with carrying lights to vehicles, but had no suggestion to make re slaughterhouses. :. From Featheraton Town Board and the Masterton Borough Council on the same subject.' Resolved that Or Phillips be requested to re-write the by-laws and submit them to the neit. meeting with the view of their being passed. Or Buchanan read a letter from Mr Roe relative to the Council makingan ex? change of a piece of land with him for a piece of the Hurunuiorangi reserve. Resolved that the matter be left with Or Buchanan to report on at the next meeting. . .
Sundry accounts were passed for payment, and the meeting closed.
