FOOTBALL.

A football matcli was played at Martinborough on Saturday last between a team representing the Lower Valloy, and the Greytown Fire Brigade, and after a splendid match resulted in a draw, each side scoring a try. The following were, the respective teams :—Lower ValleyBack, MaunselL; throe-quarters, F. Pearce andC, Bidwill; half-backs, J, MoMaster (captain), 0. Hume, and G. Tully; forHarvey, J. Tocker. F. Tally, J.' Cameron,. Tanawai, H. Mitchell, W. Lucena, H. Hume, and another. Greytown Fire' Brigade-Back, E. Udy; three-quarters, J. Roydhouse, and J. Terry j half-backs, A. Udy, & Humphries, and Webster (captain); forwards— C. Beard, T. Fisher, W. Humphries, F. MuhyF. Hawke, J. Phillips, C. Varnham. and E. Collier. Messrs Maguire and 0. Kemble acted as umpires for the Fire Brigade and. Lower Valley respectively. The play on both sides was pretty even, but the passiu? of the visitors was sometimes too good for the home team, but this was counter-balanced by the forward play of the latter. During the first spell, C. Board, from some good passing, got over the Lower Valley line, and drew first blood, but the try at goal was not successful. Shortly after, this, half time was called-. During the last spell, the visitors were forced down several times. However, from some loose ■ play, F. Tully got the ball and ran right through .the opposing team. He was collared on the line, and a maul ensued, and finally a try was allowed. The kick at goal was a failure. From this time no further scoring was made. For Lo.wer Valley, C. flume, J. McMaster,' J. Tooker. W. Harvey, and F. Tully.played a splendid game, while for tho visitors J. Terry, A. • Udy, E. Udy, and G ; Humphries irioar. distinguished thomselves, The utmost good feeling prevailed throughout the game. The return match will be played at Greytown at mi early date. ' •'■
