The Wairarapa Daily. MONDAY, JULY 5, 1886. THE MIDLAND RAILWAY.

Tiie Evening Post censures Messrs Fishor, Newman, and Johnston, the representatives of Wellington in Par-' liament, for opposing the Midland Railway-Bill. Our contemporary declares that the measure will prove of great value to Wellington interests, and is almost as enthusiastic over it as if it were affiliated to the Ohristchurcli League. We are pleased to notice that the Wellington M.H.fi.'s take a broader view of the question than the leading Wellington journal. From a colonial point of view the Midland railway is a '' political job," which does not redound to tho credit New Zealand, and which is unlikely to prove advantageous in the long run. Perhaps when tiie Bill comes before the Legislative Council we may hear a little plain speaking :about its provisions, hut possibly even M.L.CJ.'s may lie deterred from expressing independent opinions lest an unwelcome addition to their number be pitchforked into the chamber to vegister the edict of the Government.
