SUSPECTED MURDER IN WELLINGTON.
• (United Press Association.) Wellington, this day... The body of a man named Mullens, who formerly kept the Olvdo Quay Hotel,- Oriental" Bay, was taken out of the harbor near the Lion Foundry, yesterday. The body bore marks of violonce, and as foul play is sußpeotod, a laborer named John Roberts has been arrested,
Late it Roberta, who had been lodging at Mullens' boardinp-house, Plimmer F s Steps, left there will. Mulleiiß on Friday afternoon, and the two men were drinkinp about town. Late in the afternoon Malleus' bought a second-hand overcoat, which-he put on, and buttoned every button. The mon left' then in the direction of the Lion Foundry, and so far as is known at present, this was. the hißt time Mullens was seen alive. Roberts returned to his lodging) having the coat Mullens had bought witli him, and in reply to a question from Mrs Mullen as to tho.whereabouts-of her husband, accused said,."Oh, I've settled for him." Mullens not returning home, enquiries wero made, and'it was not until yusterday afternoon that the bbdv was found, and it was brought to-the surfaco of the water by the anchor oi a yacht just getting under way. The coat- has been torn in several places, which shows a struggle must have taken place, and Mullens' body beaw marks of violence, the loft eyo is black and cut, and blood has been owing from the mouth, Mullens was about 35 years of age. Roberts gives his age as 55, though ho does not look it, and stoutly donics his guilt, stating. he doeß not remember what became of Mullens after they left the Branch Hotel.
