IMITATING MARK TWAIN.
A Michigan avenue grocer, whose, family occupy rooms over the store, was fumigating some bedding the other day in a vacant room, and after a time, the smoke began to pour ont of a broken pane which he had overlooked. A pedestrian saw the smoko and did not for a moment doubt that the place was on tire. It was a good chance for him to emulate the nonchalance of Mark Twain, and he suppressed his desire to yell and turn in an alarm and entered the store, took a chair by the stove and ramarked
'• Quite a change in the weather !" "Yes," " Don't look so much liko an open winter as it did V
" Trade pretty good J" " Yes, tolerably fair." " This would be a bad mo;nmg to burn out." "It would that." "I suppose you are insured!" " Not fully, hut shall be to-morrow." " I'm sorry that you delayed so long, for I oi'.me in to tell you that your tipitairs has been on fire these last two minutes I"
"Yes; thank you. Willie!"
"Yes, sir," responded the Clerk,
"Miikeanoiber mark on the cheeiebox. This is the fifth man who has come in with the same old guy this morning, mid 1 expect ut least half a dozen more,"
'' Bin 1 tell you I saw smoke pour ingfnun ihe window 1" protested the stranger,
" Exactly, Let her pour. I'm fnml gating. Next."
