In the Council ytstorday Mr Buckley said the Government was unable to take Is duty off sulphur. The boak containing j Mr Stout's speech at the cloio of tho Exhibition would shortly be in the hands of members, . Mr Barnicoat moved the Address in Reply, and said he believed the speech would meet with the approval of all classes of the community] ' He traversed tho speech and saw tlie Government were entitled to the thanks of tho Colony for fostering manufactories and products, and the manner in which it had brought them before the world. The Colony should rejoice at the fact that the East and West Const Railway was to be undertaken. Mr Shrimski seconded the motion, and congratulated the Colony on' the steady progress being mado. Referring to. the South Sea Island, he hoped that tlie Government would not annex them merely for trading purposes.
The motion was carried. The usual sessional committees wore appointed, and after the Police' Force Bill and Defence Bill had been introduced, the Council adjourned until next day.
