The prisoner, who is well known in Masterton, having been a Life Insurance agent, pleaded guilty to the charges, and had nothing to say in defence. From the evidenco,' of the prosecutor, it appears that the prisoner made representations to him that ho was entitled to £4O, as compensation for being wrongfully dismissed from, the Colonial Mutual Life Association, mid gave prosecutor an order oil Messrs Chapman and I'itzgerald, Solicitors, (who he said held his power of attorney), to receive the full amount. The money with other amounts was lent on the streii|?fch|of this, and when the order was presented it was ignored. J, A. Salmon, clerk to Messrs Chapman and Fitzgerald, gave evidence to the effect that prisoner had never had any business connection with the firm since it had been \r existence. Detective M'Grath proved three previous convictions on similar charges auainsfc prisoner, who was sentenced to four weeks on each charge to tun concurrently,
