Thos. Long, Now Zealand hangman, pleaded guilty to a charge of being drunk and disorderly in the public street on Saturday last. The Sergeant gave a long account of the prisoner's career,which was not of a very brilliant description. Long made a defence at some length, which was to the effect that he was a hard used individual, and demanded the protection of the Court. . ConefcableCuUilane proved fck&fe prisoner was fighting at the rear of the Empire Hotel on Saturday, and although he was oautioned, he persisted in his pugilistic encounter, and was then arrested. The bench bore ont tho prisoners idea of his been an illused individual but sentenced him to 14 days hard labor. Drunks. Richard Lane, who appeared in the dock in a drunker state to answor a charge of drunkenness, was remanded back to arlow him time to become sober. John Downe, who had been locked up sinoe Saturday, was fined 5s or 12 hours.
