The Armed Forces Bill the Defence Minister intends to introduce this session will, besides the consolidation of all existing Acts relating to Armed Constabulary, Volunteers and Militia, make provision for altering the constitution of the Militia, as follows:—The first class will comprise unmarried men between the ages of 17 and 30; the second class, unmarried men from 30 to 40, and married men from 17 to 30; the. third class will include unmarried men" from 40 to 55, and married men fiora 30 to 55; all above 55 will bo exempt. Mr Ballance alsojntends to consolidate all Acts relating to civil police and the designation of these is to bo changed to Armed Constabulary. The members of the Torpedo, Artillery, and Armed Constabulary will in future be known aB the Permanent Militia fnrco. Sergoaut-Major McGovorn, who took a prominent part in arresting Winiata, the murderer, in tho Wakato district some years ago has been appointed Inspector in charge of the Kawhia District.
