CORRESPONDENCE.
~—•*—- . \ RAILWAY EXTENSION. .^: To The Editor. ' Sir,—ln reply to a letter from Mr Job Vile in Wednesday's paper, I may bt allowed to point out, that in the preamble ' of our petition it is clearly stated that the' petition does not come from the inhabitants of Ekctahuna only, but from settler* and intending settlers of the Wairutapa North:". The/amount of grass land and 'stock to which we refer, intends to* show the existing settlement which would bo served by tho railway, with tho terminus at Eketahua, If it was'thought necesiaty to go into exact details, we would have been obliged to make a distinction between Eketahuna, Mangapiio, Alfredton and Bawera, the whole belonging to' ona - district (the Alfredton. District),."which district as a whole would be benefitted , and served by the railway oxtension to , Eketahuna, bo 1 do not think that angjf serious objection could be raised at' to that part of the petition. to the Mangatainoke land taken ujnoy the different associations, I do not think that, we are far wronti. l,bulieve that the ■ Masterton, Wellington, and Hutt" Associations have taken up, if not quite, atleast very close on, 80,000 acres, . The , only thingto which MrVile.inmy opinion, may make'an objection, is the statement that two sawmills were at work. ', But here again I inay say that the petition will not be presented before Parliament meets, and I have been informed by Mr Selby, that the sawmill to be erected on his property will be at work long before that, so t,hat by the time (lie petition U presented, we would be perfectly correct in our statements. lara.&c., F. Voir Rems.
