MASTERTON SCHOOL COMMITTEE.
ft. The regular monthly meeting of the committee was held in the Institute last night, Present, - Messrs Boddington, (Chairman) Woodroofe, Hogg, and Payton. The minutes of the previous meeting wore read and confirmed. ' The Chairman reported a credit balance of £6l9s, and capitation now overdue, £3117 a 6d. CORRESPONDENCE. Miss Keeling wrote stating that the clock supplied 'by the Board was of no use.. Mr Grundy wrote stating that the school was fully equipped with necessaries and re the Kindergarten applianoes in use by Miss Jupp, and recommending the . Committee to take them over. From the Secretary to tho Education Board re the examination of candidates for the appointment of pupil teachers and vacancies, From the same stating in answer to an enquiry that Mr Roese was still a member of the Committee although living out of the district. named Caleb Ewiugton, and stating his reasons for so doing. ■ It was resolved that the Board be asked W supply another clock, as the one sonfc would not. go, although it had been sent to be repaired;
Thatihe Kindergarten appliances supplied by Miss J.upp be taken over, and tho account (£2 4s 6d) for samo be passed for payment. ' ■ Re pupil teachers, the Chairman stated that two monitors had been appointed to fill the Vacancies that had existed in the schools, and tho teachers were satisfied with the assistance rendered by them. The Chairman stated he had made arrangements to secure the Theatre Royal in which to hold the annual meeting and election, and that tho Education Board had arranged to advertise'the time and place of meeting. Ro the expulsion of a boy from tho Public School by tho' Headmaster. The Chairman explained the circumstances -of .the.case. It \m resolved that the Committeo endorse the action of tho master in expelling Caleb Ewington. The Head Master reported that there were 541 names on the roll; 437 was the' average attendance, 479 the highest, and 3c4 the lowest; that pending arrangement for pupil teachers he hud appointed Edith Sage 'assistant monitress. Miss Keeling reported on the infant school, that there were 112 on the roll; 93 was tho average attendance, 107 the highest, and7o the lowest; that Alice Galloway had been appointed assistant monitress; that coal was required for winter use, and new slates were wanted.
The Secretary was instructed to take a note and see that the wants were supplied. The log book was read, The following accounts were submitted and passed for payment:—T.K Price, school requisites, £ll9s Gd; Mrs Woodham, cleaning; £1; G. M.Wood, £1; J. Ransome, £2 5s (id. ■ The Chairman on behalf of the subcommittee htmdod in the report to be submitted to the annual meeting on Tuesday, April 27th, at the Thoatro Royal, The report was approved and adopted. The Chairman moved and Mr Woodroofe seconded that the report and balance, sheet he published in the two local papers' —Carrried
The Chairman said a meeting of tho Committoe would be held on the night of the public 'meeting, to confirm the present minutes,
Tho Secretary was instructed to notify by advertisement the night and place of the meeting of for the purpose of electing a new-Committee and receiving the report and thebalance sheet. Mr Payton moved and Mr Hogg seconded " That the best thanks of tho Committeo be given to the Chairman, for the time and attention he has devoted duringthe past, year to the cause of education in Masterton.-Carricd unanimously. The Chairman thanked them hoartily. He had takpn great interest in the school. He may have committed errors, they, were all liable to that, but he bolieved his were of the head not of the heart. (Hear! hear.) He had been six years on the School Committee, and for five years its Chairman, The meeting then adjourned.
