MASTERTON SCHOOL COMMITTEE. .. ANNUAL REPORT. YOUR Committee, in submitting to you their report for fifteen months, during which they have held offico, arc gratified to record continued progress in the Masterton School District. The number on the roll of the main school ia now 533, and the average attendance for the past year has been 417, and at tho infant School, which was opened in Hall in July last, under Misa Keeling, tlioro aro 113 children on tile roll, with an avorage attendance of 77. Tho number |f children now being educated in Masirton underyour Committee has increased w m 503, in tho previous annual record, ro 646 in the present one, showing that esfconsion of school accommodation at tho northern end of tho town has been beneficial to tho causo of education in this town. Your Committeo havo tho pleasure to report that tho staffs of both main and infant schools havo done efficient work during the past year, and fully maintained the prestige which this district has so long enjoyed. Mr Grundy, notwithstanding some inconvenient changes in his staff, placod the main school in a leading position at his annual examination of the Education District, and Miss Keeling has fully justified tho confidence reposed in lior by your committee. The annual balanco sheet shows tho funds which your Committee havo had at their disposal during tho past year, including a sum of £35 kindly granted by the Town Lands Trust, they have carefully expended their limited incomo in : necessary improvements to tho school and Bclioolgrounds. During the past year 22 meetings of tho Committee have been held, at. which the attendance were—J. C. Boddington 82, A W. Hogg 21, J. Payton JO, G. W. Woodroofo 20, T. P. Girduood 20, Wm. Lowes 15, A. Reese 12. The members of the Committee havo also paid in rotation the usual weekly visit to the school. In conclusion the Committee have to record their appreciation of the admirable manner in which 1 the accounts, records, and minutes of the proceedings have been kept by the Secretary,' Mr W. Sellar.
