Masterton Biding. —Te Ore. Ore' Bidoford Road.—Mr Budden's metalling contract wsi completed during the early part of the month. Thcolassof gravel, although of a rather fine description, will nevertheless bind well. 'lf proper attention is devoted to raking in and levelling the inequalities as they occur in the metal, a good solid surface will bo procured whioh will be capable of withstanding a reasonable amount of heavy traffic. I have to direct the attention of the Council to; the action 6f one of the settlers on, this line, who, without rcforenco to the Council in any way, has. takon upon himself to split into posts, and remove for his private use, almost tho whole of. the total* timber alorig the road, This material wkb of considerable value to the Council for culvorts and bridgo repairs, and timber to replace it will have to be procured from the Masterton. saw mills, whon repairs become necessary. lajtad alistof the timber takcn, showing the equMWIL value of sawn matorial to replace it. mention that due notice was given to him #Ji Jf crosecutting was commenced, and beforo any'of the posts were split, to desist from fuith'er interference with the Council's property. This notice was, however, totally disregarded. I have examined Mr KestlandV work of repairing the different fords' to the Tiraumea river. Mr Crewe's letter to the Council at its insfc sitting, Irom measurements which I took, I havoascor-' tained that no encroachment has, as yet. taken place on his leasehold, although the working of the pit is calculated to damage his frontage. The pit, tho using of which he complains of, issituated within the three chain road and railway reserve to the last of the formed and metalled roadway. I have, &c, COremner, Engineer.
