A collective note from the Great Powers has been forwarded to Greece notifying Ihe signature of the protocal dealing with the Rohmelian difficulty. Tn conveying the information, the Powers strongly urged Greece to abandon her warlike intention's, It is believed Prince Alexander of Bulgaria will acquiesce in the terms of the protocol, accept the Governorship of Koumelia for the period of five years, Loudon, April 8, Received April 8, 10,45 p.m.~A complimentary banquet to Mr Murray Smith on his leaving for Australia, took place last evening, Among the principal guests were Earl. Granville, Secrotary for the Colonies, Earl Roseberry, Secretary for Foreign Affuits, Earl Kimberley, Secretary tor India, Mr 'Osborne Morgan, Under-Secretary for the Colonies, Sir Arthur Blyth, AgentGeneral for South Australia, and Sir Saul Samuel, Agent-General for New South Wales. Earl Granville speaking during the evening eulogised the patriotic feeling which resulted in the despatch of the Mew South Wales contingent to the Soudan, and referred in terms of praise to the men who served in it. He was in favor of a much closer connection between the Colonial and the Imperial forces than at present existed, and expressed a hope that the Australasian colonies would co-operate in placing King George's Sound in an adeqnatestate of defence against foreign attack. Referring to the Recidivist question Earl Granville stated the French Government had suggested the immediate abolition of the system of deporting convicts to the Pacifielslanrls in exchange for certain concessions on the part of the British Government. The Cabinet, however, decided to be guided by the Australasian colonies in the line of action adopted in dealing with the subject, ■ " It is currently stated that LieutenantGeneral Sir Charles Mitchell wil probably succeed Sir George Desvceux as Governor of Fiji, London, March 7. To-day the Colonial wool sales catalogued 10,100 bales submitted to auction. The tone of the market is flat. Melbourne, April 8. The Tarawera arrived from the Bluff this morning. Messrs Goldsborough & Co., Limited published a balance sheet for the past years' transactions to day. It was shown that the Company dealt with over 100,000 bales of wool during the year. The nett profits available amount to £40,000. A dividend at the rate of 10 per cent will be paid, and the sum of £IO,OOO carried to the Reserve Fund, makiugthe total amount of the Company's reserve £120,000. A further sum of £IO,OOO was carried forward to the present years' account. Sydney, April 8. Received April 9lh, at 0.50 a.m.Arrived Mariposa, with inward Trisco mail,, this afternoon. The debate on Sir Henry Partes' motion with regard to the new Hebri- i des was commenced in the Legislative Assembly to-day. It is expected a division will be taken to-morrow night.
