Granville, Secrotary for the Colonies, Earl Roseberry, Secretary for Foreign Affuits, Earl Kimberley, Secretary tor India, Mr 'Osborne Morgan, Under-Secretary for the Colonies, Sir Arthur Blyth, AgentGeneral for South Australia, and Sir Saul Samuel, Agent-General for New South Wales. Earl Granville speaking during the evening eulogised the patriotic feeling which resulted in the despatch of the Mew South Wales contingent to the Soudan, and referred in terms of praise to the men who served in it. He was in favor of a much closer connection between the Colonial and the Imperial forces than at present existed, and expressed a hope that the Australasian colonies would co-operate in placing King George's Sound in an adeqnatestate of defence against foreign attack. Referring to the Recidivist question Earl Granville stated the French Government had suggested the immediate abolition of the system of deporting convicts to the Pacifielslanrls in exchange for certain concessions on the part of the British Government.
