United Press Association. Auckland, this day. A woman named Slater, the wife of a gumdisger, was found drowned at Riverhead. Thomas Mitchell attempted suicide at Helensvdle by jumping off tho wharf. He was rescued. He made a similar attempt a week ago. He has been ingChristchurch, this day. At the inquest on the body of an infant son of Patrick Dempsey of Halswell, a verdict of man-slaughter against Heinrich Melhopt was returned. It appears the latter crossed from the right side on which he was driving, to the wrong one, which caused a collision between his cart and the one occupied by Mrs Dempoy and iiifant, both of whom were thrown out, and the latter killed. Melhopt was committed for trial. Dunedin, this day. A meeting of shareholders in the Keep-it-dark Company was held yesterday, at which the chairman stated ho had telegraphed to tho legal manager at Reofton, requesting full particulars regarding certain alleged deficiencies and duplication of scrip. The only telegram he had received in reply boaring upon the matter was to tho effect that the directors would make up all deficiencies. The meeting was adjourned until this morning.
