The, Senior four-uared.outrigger race wasrawed this evening, and resulted as follows: Wakatu Club, Nelson, Ist; Union Club, Ohristchurch, 2nd; Canterbury Rowing Club, 3rd ; Star Club, Welington 4th; Wellington Rowing Club sth. The Gazette notifies that cock pheasants californian quail, and hares may be taken or killed within Wellington and Wairarapa districts, consisting of counties of Hutt, Wairarapa ii;uu, and .Wairarapa West, from 15th of April to thirty-first of July, and that native game (excepting Tuis) may be taken or killed within the said district, from loth of April to 31st of July. Diinemn, March 18. Benjamin Ollerenshaw, agon 65, lessoe of Caversham quarry, was killed -by a slip which took place this morning. Oamaru, March 18. The jury in the case of Mary Moron, who was indicted for the manslaughter of her infant, were locked up all night, unable to agree, and were discharged this morning. A new trial will take place next session, The hearing of the charge of arson against Johanna Croft is proceeding. ' Wellington, this day.
At the Supremo Court in Banco yesterday afternoon, the appeal case Dark v Island Bay Racing Club was heard. The case arose out of the Anniversary Race Meeting, at which the Club paid out the totalisator money in the Consolation race on Little Scrub, the horse which won the race after a dead heat with Talebearer, the plaintiff holding that the money should have been divided on the first race, and-paid respectively to' depositors on each horse. In the Lower Court, the Magistrate gave a decision in favor of the Club, and it was from this decision Dark appealed. After argument the Judge dismissed'the appeal with costs. : Wellington, this day.
At a meeting of the Committee of the Wellington Special Settlement Association, the Secretaiy staled he had received a reply from the Government as to .the price of the land selected by the Association, and that the price had been fixed at £1 per acre. A meeting will be held on Monday next to consider the matter,
