(BY BLROW.C TELEUKAPH—COPYRIGHT) Reutek's Telegrams, Sydney, March 18, The drought which lias prevailed for some time past has broken up, and good rains are reported as experienced all over the country. Arrived,—Tarawcra this afternoon. Adelaide, March 15. The Inter-Colonial cricket match Victoria v. South Australia, was concluded i to-day. The South Australian team won with forty runs to spare. The report of the Committee who wero deputed to inquire into the affairs of the Commercial Bank of South Australia, states that the Committee of investigation has collapsed in view of the dishonesty of the manager and accountant, who, owing to the culpable negligence of the Directors, kept the Board in ignorance of the true state of affairs, and advanced upwards of £278,000, mostly without security; also used funds of the bank for their own purposes, and manipulated the accounts so as to render the discovery impossible in the ordinaay course of audit. It is considered that the Directors displayed great laxity in the performance of their duties, and notwithstanding the experiences of mismanagement prior to the year 1880, they failed to exercise any ordinary precaution against the misappropriation of the funds. Tho report further states that the stoppage of the Bank is in no way due to depression of trade, The total losses incurred by the Bank are set down at £324,000. | London, March 15, Earl Roseberry, Secretary of State for Foreign Affairs, has instructed Sir Henry Drummond Wolff, special Commissioner in Egypt, that tho British Army of occupation yrill shortly be reduced by six Regiments, and informed him that Her Majesty's Government propose withdrawing tho British forces to Assouan, as the furtherest southerly outpost, while the Egyptian troops will protect the frontier as far as Wady Haifa, Mouktitar Pasha, Turkish Commissioner, hesitates to assent, to these proposals, as the withdrawal of the British forces will entaillarge the reinforcement of the Egyptian army.
