WAIRARAPA WEST COUNTY COUNCIL.

'A meeting of the above Council was held on Saturday. Present-Crs W. Booth (Chairman), H. Bunny, H, R, Bunny, H. Braithwaite, W. C. Buchanan, J. Tully, A. Mathews, and C. Phillips, The minutes of the last meeting were read and confirmed.

Some discussion took place re the borrowing of £7OO from the Featherston Road Board. The matter was allowed to stand over till next meeting!

A letter was read from the United Pistript Bpard re Charitable Aid.

Or H, Bunny stated that the letter had, been sent without the consent of the Board, and there was no necessity for discussing the matter.—The Clerk was authorised to forward a reply.

Cr Phillips desired to bring a petition forward, but he was ruled out of order, as he had not given tho notice required by the Act. The Engineer's report was read and adopted. The Chairman explained that as the ):.qa<) was not in apt state to hayethe timper conveyed by'dray tq'the p'jace fqr building the Wainuioru britjge, ]\& had authorised Mr Dawson to sledgo the timber in.

Tjjo Chairman's action was approved of,

Cr H, Bunny stated that ho had not seen the proposed bye-laws. He moved that each Cr have a copy of the by-laws, and the matter of passing them stand over till next meeting. Soconded by Cr Braithwaite and oarried.

. Cr Phillips complained about the remarks made by the Chairman of the Public Works Committee.

Cr Buchanan (as Chairman of the Public Works Committee) repudiated the idea of anything said to give any offence. The Chairman's statement was upheld by th? qther members of tho Committee. Cr B. Ijunii'y inoyed Rafter thg 31st May next the Waiohihe toll gate Wahqiished, and that the gate and toll house be sold by public auction .Seconded by Cr Tujjy. and carried,

The Clerk applied for an increase of salary, as a bonus for past servioos. The matter was allowed to stand over till next meeting. This concluded the business.
