KALWAIWI SCHOOL TREAT.
V The annual treat of the children atfcenjSmng.the Kaiwaiwai school took place last Thursday. It was evident that thojadies who titijriied the refreshments, jvnd tlie itoriier sex, wlio took an active part in the'matter of arranging games etc. for the children's amusement, were determined tliiit'the gathering of 1886 should not be behind its predecessors for a pleasant djiy's' outing. Perhaps tho most noticeaolo feature of the day's carnival was the Wdred"g6od feeling that prevailed throughout, and the pupils, although Entering with spirit into tho various .games arranged for thoir amusement, ;acted>in a most decorous manner, which ■ :.is not only very creditable to them, but !;}'«/ a compliment to their teacher, Mr , Singer.. Amongst tho ladies present who • ' were most liberal in their donations 'of refreshments, and were untiring in their energies of dispensing with them to the iidults as well as children, wore liesdames Williams, Feuwick, Singer, Benton," and Bicknell. With one exception tho whole of the members of the committee wero present, all of whom were . most assiduous in their attentions to both old and young. Special mention is due to the Chairman, MrW. 0. Williams, ■ for the thoughtfulncs* displayed by him id providing amusements for'all classes. Attor full justice had been done to the Sfo'd things provided, various games were . mulled in'till darkness intervened; when rae juveniles retired to their respective homes, and judging from their mirthful appearance, they wero well pleased with their day's outing. As is usually the case on these occasions, it was decided to conclude the day's . enjoyment with a danco, and the capacity of the schoolroom was taxed to its ■uttermost to accommodato the phalanx of dancers present, It was very difficult to select a belle, as each lady was dressed as becoming, and danced as gracefully as her-fair neighbor; but it was generally considered that Miss Grace Femviu 1 .; was entitled to that honor. There was a liberal display of refreshments, and \. ith these and tho dancing, the whole assemblage passed some merry hours, To en- • liven the approaching long winter ■ evenings, repetitions of this successful event arc talked of.
