The weather was splendid, and there was a good attendance. Tho usual games, and Pearson's Private Brass Band made time pleasant. The Stewards decided that the winning of a Novel race, debarred Te Whiti starting for the Maiden. Handioap Hurdles, of 30 aovn. About 2 miles, over darkened hurdles 2ft !)in high. Laing) 3 Walkover 9st 101b, Aunt Sally 9st 41b, and Freak 9st aho ran' Albert Lyford riding Ngatitoa made him first favorite, He was first away, but Laing on Infant, led over the first hurdle, followed by Ngatit"a and Freebooter, the others m indian file. They only cantered tothonext jump, ovor which Freebooter led. Infant next, Walkover falling and upsetting Freak. Infant again showed the way to the hurdle in the straight, once over which Mr Vennell sent his joker along, leading past the stand at ; a fair pace, Infant and Ngatitoa being the only ones left with a Bhow;'' On the far side, Ngatitoa passed Infant and, went for Freebooter, but failed,, the Kaumingi horse keeping in front to the end and Winning with a trifle' ii> hand, "''Dividend,' £6 IBs, The jockeys of Walkover and Freak were not hurt, Hack Hurdles, of 16 bovs. About 1 mils and a distance, Weight not less than lOst, Over darkened hurdles 3ft 9in high, Post onto 1 sov. . At the, top turn Firstwater led,' Satanella and Kakapo next, the other two beateu. Mr Tancred's pony held her advantage ; till the turn for home, where Kakapo and Satanella challenged her, but she stalled them off, and half way up the straight was apparently winning easily, but the others answered bo gamely that the boy had to ride for it, and won by a Bare length, & head separating Kakapo and Satanella.'
