NORTH WAIRARAPA BENEVOLENT SOCIETY.
A committee meeting of the Society wag held in the Institute yesterday. Prosenk. —Rev. D. Fulton (Chairman), .Mesdames Paige and Gapper, and Messrs Caselberg, Buttle, Feist and Paige. The minutes of the last meeting we,re read and confirmed. " Uj| The Treasurer reported a credit balaSp of £lO 5b Gd. <• ' The Secretary reported that he had written to the relatives of various recipients of the Society's bounty applying to them for a refund of part of monies the y advanced, but lie had received no reply. The following accounts were passed for 4 payment :—Christiansen, £1 11b ; Smith & Hogg, 6s; J. Graham (supplies), £5 12s Gd. . The Secretary asked if ho was to forward the accounts that came in to tho District Board in future. Mr Paige Baid it would be as well to suggest to Mr W. Beetham to enquire aa to what would be done as he was going down to attend tho meeting of the Board. He would move to that effect. Mr Buttle seconded the proposal, which was carried. Tho various cases on the books wore gono into. The sum of 10s a week was continued in one case. The case ot a man who had been receiving relief for the past 12 months was discussed. He had. been Bent down to Wellington, but they would not have him, and sent him back to this district where he had been receiving relief ever since. Mr Caselberg said it was one of cases that would crop up m any comm® ity. He had seen the man staggering along, and at first he feared he was under the influence of drink, but found that he was really suffering from paralysis. If .they had a home where such cases could be sent, it would -be ' better, perhaps, for all parties. _ < -■ In the case of one woman who was receiving relief, the Secretary said it was stated that the son-in-law and family at Ormondville were earing £0 a week. •• It was resolved that the Secretary tako immediate proceedings against the relatiyes of the woman, with a view to compelling them to support her, the ■ Revs. Paige and Fulton to be a subcommittee to confer with the Secretary to give effect to the foregoing resolution. ■■ There were several other cases deflt with, and relief in each coritiuued'ufitil. . tlie next meeting.
