They have prepared • Portland cement, and had it made into the usual form of bricks, and. its strength tested'. Three bricks so made have been tried, and the breaking; strain tested ; one parted at a strain of oGolbs, '■another at 7251b5, and the- last'at' 8501bs. .. 'A sample of good Portland cement was obtained from the stores, and at the same ujime the bricks were made from the Wahurangi article the same number was' (Tffiado from tho imported cement, 'l'lie breaking strain of these was—one •at 5201b5, another at G3slbs, and tho last at 6701b5. The . average breaking; strain ol the imported ■ Portland' cement was 6081bs, while that locally made mi, over 7'l3lbs. This - isvei-y especially as the Goverment. is, 2501b5, So satisfied have the. Jlesars'Wilson been with the result of iheae tests, and the materials they have to deal with, that they aro making the neceswry. alterations in their plant to enable ijttem to turn it out in . quantity.
