A ferret was caught in a fowl yard at Manaia yesterday, and met the usual fate ot these marauders. The attention of the owner was attracted by the noise the poultry were making, and on inquiring the cause found the animal—apparently a tame one—running about the yard.
The first annual soiree of the Masterton Freeihought Association was held in the Theatre last evening, under the management of the Quintette Band, who supplied the music, The attendance was in every way satisfactory, the company being delighted with the arrangements made for their amusement. Under the influence of good music, and unlimited refreshments, (supplied by the ladies of the Association) the dancing was kept up till an early hour this morning.
