FIRE BRIGADE.

To the Editor. Sir,—Having been for eight years connected with fire brigades, as Captain in. Invercargill, Lieutenant in Hokjtiku, and Captain in Mitstaton. qn tho'forina'tion of t\\o present' Bripadb, 'I tryst %t the object of this letter will be takon in good part by all parties, I have all along urged the formation of a Hook and Ladder Company, and a Fire Company. The Fire Company need not be composed of more than five or six men, but each man must be required to live or work iu separate sub-divisions of the town. Their duty is to know where every woll is, audits depth, or any other means of obtaining water. The Hook arid Ladder 'Company' should consist of the smartest men in the Brigade. They should have a light carriage on whioh there are ladders, buckets, axes, saw, and grappling hookß, with chain and rope, Tho duty of this Company is to pull down 1 any buildings'or fences that may be in the way of working, or likely to cause the ; fire to spread, and also to form proper buokeflitios, so th'at bu.cke.ts pan be worked without'confusion/ I would also suggest that there'be'six buckojs filled with water'placed a't each of the following places j—Wairarapa Hotel, W. Perry's shop,' Ohureh-st., Elkins' Hotel, Bannistor.st,, Graham's shop, Williams-st, Weill's stables, Quoen-street, Muir & Dixon's, Quoen-st., Mr Kingdon's, Smithstreet, Mr Nicholson's, Queen-st., Casol-' berg & Co.'s, Queen-st,, Pelling's, Perrysfc., Star Cfflce, Hall-sfc,, Argyle Boarding House, Queen-st'.
