Auckland, February 9th. The Star reporters on a Bearch expedition for derelict, telegraph that the lighthouse keeper at Cape Maria was strongly of opinion that the object s,een floating forwards and backwards of the west lighthouse on three days, was a large vessel bottom up, but they could not launch a boat. The search expedition discovered a large whale about 60 feet long floating abopt. It was partly devoured by sharks and other fishes. . They also found a quantity p,f iyreckage. The object seen by Captain Savory and the Jight-house keeper was probably a whale, but it was just possible that there wag a wreck as well as the whale. Thore is.no sign, however, of any vessel such as described, Surprise is expressed that Captain Savory did not at the time determine this matter by approaching the object. His theory about a new Island is of course, shown to be all nonsense. .-.
