At the next mooting of the County East Council, tho question of ways and means will be diseased with a view to reducing the working expenses of the County.
Tenders for the survey of a block of land near Eketahuna known as the Parkvillo Special Settlement, close at the office of the Secretary, Mr J. Vile, at 5 p.m. to-day. All objections to tho valuation list for the Borough of Masterton must be lodged at the R.M. Courthouse on or before the 15th February, and a copy of such objection must be left at the Town Clerks office.
We have received a letter signed "Traveller," which refers to f.he liberal candidates for the Licensing Committee. The criticism on them is so trenchant and personal, that it should not, in our opinion, appear without the name of the writer.
The County Council of East Wairarapa at their mooting yesterday heartily condemned tho imposition of tho poor rate, and passed a resolution in sympathy with the circular from the Waikato County Council, offering to send a delegate with the delegates from other counties, to wait upon the Colonial Secretary, with a view to getting the act repealed,

The gross expenditure was £10,482 lis Id, and the amount paid in salaries £731 4s Bd, but as during part of that period the Chief Engineer's appointment was not filled the estimate at what it would have been, for the twelve months was taken as £BO9 17s 7d, equa! to 7.62 per cent. The Masterton- Waimata Road proportion, per £IOO, was B.CB.
