A meeting of the Masterton Hospital Committee takes place this afternoon,
The half-yearly meeting of the Greytown Working Mens' Club was held on Saturday evening last when the balance sheet was passed, which showed the Club in a sound finanoial position,'and that it is making steady but Biiro progress, Mauriceville is to have a lock-up, and Bketahuna a policeman. People are asking, is the policeman to go to the lock-up ,or the look-up go to the policeman. Possibly the authorities consider Mauriceville and Eketahuna to be one and the same place. Messrs Lowes & loms hold their fortnightly stock sale to-morrow at their Masterton yards, the entries comprise fat wethers and ewes, lambs in the wool, good cross bred ewes, store cattle, horses, pigs, &c. With the growing feed an improvement in the prices of stock may be expected. We see by the Wellington papers that Clement Harding has been arrested in Wellington on the charge of obtaining money by means of a valueless cheque. There are cheques afloat in Masterton signed by the same name that the police are enquiring about, and which will probably come up after this case is desposed of.
We learn from one of Cobb & Co's drivers that the point near the Ruamahanga where the railway line comes <tho road is somewhat dangerous, Coming from the north a hillock obscures the view of the line, till a vehicle is absolutely on tho metals, If this hillock were removed serious accidents at some future period might be averted at a small cost.
There was a fair house at the Theatre last evening to witness the second performance of Mr A. A. O'Donnell, the champion bicyclist. The audienco was apparently greatly pleased with the exhibition, judging by the froquent applause Mr O'Donnell took the body of the hall for his performance, ana astonished the audience by his marvellous feats,
A Committee meeting of thoMasterton Horticultural Society was hold yesterday afternoon, Mr J. Vile occupying the chair. The following gentlemen wore appointed a staging committee for the Autumn show :—Messrs Everett, J. Vile. Parsons, T. Dixon and J, G. Hogg.
